It took a momentary glance of a dirty bus for Rod da Rosa to feel inspired enough to begin his music journey. Not content with the lot Rod was being dealt, this budding singer-songwriter set about creating a concept that would deliver emotive tracks of unrivalled beauty and lyrical maturity. "A voice of beauty and power" and "soaring vocals with a gentleness that comes from maturity" - so say the critics, not bad for a boy from Newport!

There is nothing contrived about Rod's creative influences. Take a group of top-notch musicians and friends, put them in a studio, leave for 3 hours and what's the result? How can a collective sound so polished? Well Rod's band of brothers had no expectations and no pressure, creating a unique platform awash with ideas! This 4 piece band deliver 4 part harmonies fused with sounds of epic proportions, coupled with Hammond organ accompaniment. The finished album was delivered through the watchful eye of Rod primarily - 'When' was written over many months of toil. Rod's great gift of condensing the band's ideas and penning the final product lay in the armoury of an acoustic guitar, pen and paper and an eternal microphone set to capture every waking moment in the studio. Line after line became song after song and an organic journey ended proudly with Rod's dream in sight.

The album's creation was overseen by Phill Brown (Rolling Stones/Bob Marley/John Martyn and Talk Talk) and Calum MacColl. The recording process was authentic - nurturing vintage instruments recorded on 2" tape, the guys crafted new sounds in close confines of each other. Unlike other recording experiences, the album was completed in 8 days, with each take treated like a live gig and tracks such as 'Take this Ride' morphing to completion after only one take, leaping from its original form with an electrifying finale!

On their live performances, says Rod: "We always prided ourselves on our energetic, tight live shows just like in the studio. This added pressure creates a sense of real fulfilment as we have always been consistent in the studio, because of our need to impress our legendary mentors" who worked with the likes of Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Marley, Roxy Music and Robert Plant.

Colour of Sound are preparing to tour through Europe in 2011, having already graced the stage alongside numerous top-notch artistes including Cherry Ghost and Foy Vance. The boys are delighted to be reaching out to old and new fans alike, by winging their way to a gig near you! With discographies of exceptional calibre, Rod and his band are so proud their album is produced by such revered names as Phill and Calum. With such eloquent songs and a production team of world-class proportions, the future of Colour of Sound grows rosier by the day!
