28/09/11 - NEW NAME "ROD DA ROSA": Amazingly it's been 3 years since I put together this collective of great musicians and friends who all happened to play the 100Club one night in August 2008. It was this meeting that led to the idea and opportunity to record an “old skool” album with producers Phill Brown and Calum MacColl. The rest you know but the end result of this musical adventure is the fantastic 10-track Colour of Sound album WHEN that, without a doubt, is the best music I've made to date!
However, as it turns out it’s not that easy being in a collective (as opposed to the more orthodox approach of being in a band) as everyone’s in different projects at the same time and in different parts of the country! As a result you would have noticed a rolling line up of numerous folks gracing the stage at gigs over the last year. And the majority of live performances have been as an acoustic duo so you don’t get the same power, emotion and dynamic that you would have experienced from the 5-piece Colour of Sound that you’re more familiar with on the album.
So to avoid compromising the music in any way, to give life to all the new songs that I’ve written since the last album and to avoid the confusion of this rolling collective - I’m now going under my own name, Rod da Rosa.
Anyway, just wanted to say a big thank you to all who bought the Colour of Sound record, for coming to the gigs and for your all-round enthusiasm for the songs – it’s been nothing short of inspiring! Thank you.
On that note I can’t wait to play you the new stuff so more news on the next chapter to follow. In the meantime, come down to the last acoustic gig under the name, Colour of Sound, for the Young & Lost night next THURS 6th OCT at THE LOCK TAVERN, in Camden…it’s the end of this chapter but the start of a brand spanking new one!

Can I Follow You? is a heartfelt acoustic lament based on a true story of two brothers having to cope with the poverty and pressures of inner city life in Brixton (where the track was recorded). Caught up in the violence that goes hand-in-hand with their postcode, one brother ends up being cornered by the police only to pull out a replica gun - moments later shots were fired and he lay dead in the street. Another friend, son and brother lost.
